7 to 78
On our road trip home from New Mexico, we stopped in for a night at Great Grandma and Great Grandpa's house in Arizona. It was Isaac's 7th birthday, and in a couple days, Great Grandpa's 78th birthday! May God grant you both many years!
Great Grandma so graciously cooked us up a fine fine breakfast before we hit the road again. Yum!
Thank you! Thank you! Your hospitality was a real blessing. See you soon!

Aspen Fest
One of the major highlights of the year was taking a road trip to New Mexico to vacation with our dear friends, the Gaspards at Casa Buena Vista, courtesy Papa & Gigi Gaspard (*thank you*). What a glorious week it was!
Large swaths of New Mexico are just plain yuck - hot, dirt, dirty hot dirt. But then there are the mountains. The mountains are golden, fragrant, alive, towering. That's where we were, see...
In the foreground there is the aftermath of a terrible fire, but further in the distance, you see the Aspens changing color? Makes my heart pitter-patter a bit.
You know Billy the Kid? Well, these here are his parts. Lincoln, NM. The whole town is preserved in historic splendor.
Here's where you hide from the Native Americans. Just poke your gun out through one of those holes. Um, ok. I'm grateful to live in the west, just not sure I'm ok with how we all got west.

Like he's getting booked or something.
Bullet hole still in the wall.

Katie, you never cease to crack me up!
You know me and birds...
And a nice parting shot for you all!
Art Walk
We took the boys to Carlsbad's Art Fair and were blown away by the chalk street art! Check it out!
Then down at the end of the street, some skateboarders were doing a demo. The boys loved it. Chris loved it. Then we realized that one of them was a totally famous pro skater named Pat Duffy.
Then some kids on unicycles came riding by and ol' Pat Duffy asked if he could try riding one...for the first time...no problem. Ha!
Rock balancing as an art form...very cool.

Here he is on the right.
